At the drop of a dime the P-Funk All-Stars give you a deep down feeling of, "Alright, the party has just begun!". The deep and funky slap bass grooves put you in the mood to have a gathering with friends and enjoy the night we worked hard to reach. The music of "Generator Pop" reflects this mood by encouraging listeners to start dancing. The feelgood tunes of this genre hit hard while riding the synthesized leads that popularized into a staple sound of party music used right up into today's pop anthems. The album continues to endeavor into the electric wave as it carries the function on towards creative unknowns.
P-Funk All-Stars is the collaborative efforts of the funk legends George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, & Sly Stone who show their creative input on this collection. Everything that is accepted as norms from Funkadelic and Parliament have been fused together to form a collective peice. The band members put their performance on show throughout the album jumping from one melody to another while the lyrics carve their place in the songs by catching ears unexpectedly with unusual rhyme schemes. In some breaks of the songs an almost Jazzy vibe that sounds improvised is created and then reintroduced into the song's concept. The music overall promotes a worry free enviornment where creativity is king and leaves room to build upon.
The stand out track comes at the end of the album seizing the "save the best for last" motto with a song "Hydraulic Pump". The listener is given a sample of of what has been and what is to come by meshing the funky sounds that served as a platform throughout the album with plenty of breaks and drum & bass duos. This song could be called a catalyst for what is now known today as EDM music. An upbeat moving tempo catches your heartbeat and the steady pulse of low end kick drum works well to transition to the next song or bring the track back for 1 more time around. Modern listeners will enjoy much of this album although they may feel like the style is outdated and lyrics can be comedic at certain points, but nonetheless will recognize it as an influence to music created since its release, as the song "Copy Cat" suggests. For those days off where you want to enjoy a backyard barbeque with friends or need some background tunes while you tidy up the house this is your go-to album.
